Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced that all cafes, pubs and restaurants will be opening for business. The opening date has been confirmed to be the 1st of June, and cafes, restaurants and pub bistros will be able to serve up to 20 patrons at a time from an enclosed space. From the 22nd of June, venues will be able to service 50 customers and from mid- July, this number will eventually increase to 100.
Andrews went on to say both venue owners and patrons will have an extensive set of rules to follow in the coming weeks. These rules will be finalised after discussion with the hospitality industry in the upcoming weeks. Staff members will have to be screened for any COVID symptoms while patrons will need to leave their name and contact details (for contract tracing purposes) to enter a venue where dining tables will be kept 1.5 metres apart. Venues such as pubs will only be allowed to have people inside for sit-down meals and won’t be able to open their public bars.
The Victorian state government was happy to make these changes after 50,000 tests conducted in the state over the past week showed a significant reduction in transmission of the virus. Out of a total of 233,000 tests so far, only 39 people have tested positive without being linked to a known outbreak or an overseas traveller.

Skills assessment update
The Vocational Education and Training Assessment Services (VETASSESS) has decided to change some of its processes in order to be fair to those affected by the Corona pandemic. VETASSESS is now granting extensions for clients to obtain documents, and in some cases putting applications on hold. Visa holders can now supply alternative forms of evidence and access a new online payment solution for paper-based applications. The Australian Government’s policy on skilled migration has not changed and VETASSESS is still accepting applications and conducting skill assessments for professional and trade occupations.
